Blood-Stained Tears

BLOOD-STAINED TEARS

by Rachel Thornhill

Sorrow envelops me

Depression ripped my heart out

Devouring it piece by piece

My lifeless body watching in horror

Tearing skin with the swipe of a blade

A red curtain of blood drapes over my arms

Calling out and no one hears

I need the madness to end.

Rachel Thornhill has struggled with depression for 10 years. This poem was written about a time when she suffered with self-cutting. She has learned to live with it thanks to the support of her husband and family.
