The guidelines for submission are simple, and flexible:
Fiction/Non-fiction: Up to 2,000 words. If you have an exceptional piece that runs longer, please email sisterhoodofstrength@gmail.com to query.
Poetry: Up to 10 lines. If your poem is longer, please email sisterhoodofstrength@gmail.com to query.
Art: Any art is acceptable. Either take a photograph and upload, or scan and email to sisterhoodofstrength@gmail.com.
Please be sure to include a short bio (100 words or less) about your mental illness and how it has affected your life, so others can learn your story. If you’d like to remain anonymous, please say so. Respecting your right to privacy is important to SOS.
If you have something else to contribute that you think would fit this project, please email: sisterhoodofstrength@gmail.com.
A Note: The artwork, fiction, or non-fiction piece does not have to be about the mental illness. Any creative work is appropriate.
Why Should I Contribute?
Besides the fact that millions of people will read/see your lovely work, just think how many women’s lives you’ll touch!
In addition to that, we’ll be doing a monthly drawing, where one random contributor will be chosen to receive an inspiring, relevant prize.
And if that doesn’t do it for you, we’ll be compiling the first 100 entries into an anthology (authors and artists can choose to opt out). The majority of the proceeds from the sale of the book will go towards mental health research.
I think this is an excellent idea. I have experienced bipolar disorder for most of my life.
I have many tales to tell and would be happy to participate. I don’t believe that my writing is good enough; however, I can put together a piece about the years of my driving an 18 wheeler tales of how people reacted to a woman behind the wheel and can t. I was a hoot. If interested, please let me know. Many times I would have a manic attack while loading and/or unloading my big rig.

Part of my mental illness makes it difficult to read in detail.
I would like to have my work on your site. Please email me and let me know how.
I want to share my long journey to peace. I also have pieces of art that depict that journey.
I have a site for poetry at http://joycespoems.blogspot.com
I have a question: Do I post the essay here and at SheWrites.com? My piece could run 3,000 words, but if it’s not allowed, let me know and I’ll pair it down. Let me know because I’ve seen where Jan. 2, 2011 is a deadline. If I can post for February, let me know because I could send something later. I’d like the January slot, though. Joyce Evans-Campbell
